Wordless Wednesday - but with Words.

The early intervention program in our county has gone bankrupt since we used their services for Ben. It is now run by Easter Seals. They called me today for an interview to see if Clara will qualify for therapy services with them. The criteria is much more stringent and she may not be eligible because her delay is only in one area. I have to run some simple tests on her this evening and speak to the evaluator again tomorrow for her determination. Unfortunately private therapy for Clara is not covered by our insurance.

Momentarily, I found myself actually hoping that she would score low in other areas so her therapy would be covered by EI. Then I recognized the absurdity of these thoughts. It is a blessing that Clara is thriving in every other way. I can't let the bureaucracy of government early intervention make me forget that.
If there really is only enough funding to help the children with the most severe delays, then I would hate for Clara to take a spot from someone who needs it more. And so we will wait. And explore other options.

Now for a confession:

I went into Google Reader this afternoon and marked all 200 unread posts as "Read". And just like that a weight was lifted off of me. If I haven't made it by your place lately, I am going to try to do so going forward. It was just adding too much stress to try to go back.

She's such a beautiful child! Keep us posted on how everything turns out..

I have almost 200 posts in my reader too. I'm considering the "mark all as read" option...

Oh, dear, fellow bloggers should never add guilt. We all are doing the best that we can as we can. Good luck!

I've done that with my google reader, too. Don't sweat it!
What a beautiful little girl. I hope everything works out with the funding.

I hope she qualifies, just as she is. I hate to think there isn't help for any kids who need it...even if they just need a small boost. But I know, there are always limits...and unfortunately they tend to be arbitrary.

I bet you could get a book (PT workbook of some sort) to give you some ideas of exercises you can do with her (if the ES don't take her). I have some other ideas of things you can do to work with her too.

She is a gorgeous child!! And...it is difficult to know your child would benefit by some program for which you can't qualify or isn't covered. I like your attitude though. God does know. If she doesn't qualify -- I'd take the road of buying a couple of quality books about treatment and do what I can myself. Sometimes Mom-adminstered therapy is better anyway. You know her better!

And...absolutely NO GUILT at not checking out posts. We are here to have fun...and make connections...I hope we have understanding of one another's and our own limits -- There are only so many hours in a day. And your first priority is the little one...not our blogs!!!

Oh, I know! Google reader is a blessing...and a curse. I always feel that CERTAINLY the posts I miss were the ones that would have really really influenced me. But sometimes, you just have to skip 'em...

I have hit mark all as read so many times and never even fessed up. As for EI - well, we just got beat up going round and round that block. Happily, I guess, as LP is nearly 4 his delays stand out more now than ever and he gets more help now than he did before, both from the school system and our medical insurance - but then I stand back and say, how come everyone says early intervention is best, but no one really wants to pay for it? Our school district strategically holds back help for three years b/c they like to see which kids will out grow problems, my problem is only for all the kids that don't outgrow it - it was a year of waiting for help. Our PPT re-evaluation is next week and we are expecting a big bump in services as we near the 4 year old birthday. I'm sorry you are stuck waiting. I hope something turns your way for Clara.
