I confess...

I didn't go to Blogher.

And I am pretty darn happy about it. I am not a big-name-blogger. I will never be a big-name-blogger. And while there was a time I thought I wanted that, it turns out I am pretty O.K. with my mediocre blog status now.

Because I would totally crumble under the pressure to produce brilliance day after day.

And going all the way to San Fran to meet other people who may or may-not have happened on some of my writing sounds like a form of slow and painful torture. Death by mortification.

So there, my secret's out. I don't want to meet any of you people.

O.K. there are a few of you I would kind of like to meet. In a one-on-one or very small group setting. For a limited amount of time. You know, in case I am so incredibly dull I need to hide under the table with a basket of rolls you are a total nut job.

I am looking forward to reading your stories. Please tell me everything. Who you did you meet? How much did you drink? Who's funny, kind, genuine, just-as-wonderful-as-you-knew-they-would-be? And I will read it. Soaking up every bit and genuinely in awe that you had the confidence to go and actually enjoy it.

But, I'll be very happy it was you and not me.

Well, about 95% happy. And the other 5% can shut-up. It's never. gonna. happen.

I happen to think you are a wonderful blogger, and I visit you daily. For me, blogging is a personal journey - a way to express myself, an outlet for me to explore ideas great and small, without the pressure to be "good", "big-name" or to produce brilliance daily. That's why your blog is terrific: it is REAL. It is YOU. And YOU are terrific, just as you are.

I'm happy not to be at BlogHer, too. That may or may not have to do with how happy I am to be on vacation in Germany, but we'll have to wait until next year to know for sure. While I have no delusions that I will ever (or desire to) be a "power blogger", there are some bloggers I would really like to meet. Funnily, very few of them are actually at BlogHer. Perhaps an erstwhile meet-up, in a much more convenient and less expensive place, is in our futures somewhere...?

I've never really been interested in going to BlogHer, either. I love to meet new people, but I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to learn about blogging. What else is there to know?

Don't sell yourself short. You're a great blogger. You're gifted with words, and, if you wanted to, could kick it up a notch.

That was so very well said. I also completely agree with a previous commenter, if you wanted to be a "power blogger", you very well could be. Your blog is great.

First time visitor and loved your authenticity. Being new to blogging, it's been funny to hear about this BlogHer conference. Wow, I guess it's huge....ignorance is bliss (or was:)

Aw, I'd like to meet you! But I am VERY boring in real life. Boring and disappointing. Blogher sounds like WAAAAAY too much pressure for me.

It was delightful. Last year was fun for me, but busy and kind of scary, too. This year was still busy, but slower paced and I had lots of quality time with the people I really cared to see, there were a few I wish I had talked to a bit more though! I don't think I have met ANYONE that I read regularly and been disappointed or surprised when meeting them, people tend to be pretty true in these spaces and meeting them is just adding a face and maybe the sound of their laughter to the picture of the person you already know.

Haha! I've had the same thoughts about it.

I'm with you totally on this. It's not anything I'd want to do, either.

Meeting people 1-on-1 or in a small setting would be good.. but... otherwise.. no.

:)
