Gratitude - Day 4 (I voted)

Today I voted for my choice of candidate for president of the United States. The people in my life are passionately polarized in their opinions on who I should have voted for. I researched my options more carefully this election than ever before. I wanted to make sure that my vote was my own, and not a result of my associations or preconceived notions. I can tell you now, the candidate I voted for did not win. And for that I am disappointed, but not surprised.

And yet, I am thankful. The gratitude that was so elusive yesterday abounded in me today. I went cheerfully, book in hand to pass the time, (I didn't need it, the line was crazy short!) to stand in line to make my opinion known on whom I wanted to represent me, my state, and my country. This is a right many people have died for in our history. A right still denied to millions and millions of people in our world.

The election did not turn out the way I wanted. But I had a vote, a say in the outcome. And in the end it turned out the way the people of the United States chose. And whether we are conservative or liberal, black or white, a donkey or an elephant, I hope we never forget what a blessing it is to be permitted to choose. I pray that someday the rest of the world will also be so blessed.

Yes Ma'am. My sentiments exactly.

Oh, you are so brave- putting it out there like that. I love you for that.

I'm disappointed too. I hope that in our zeal to run away from one thing we haven't run toward something we will soon regret.

Amen to that. My dude won, but even if he hadn't I had a say and that is no small thing. (plus, Josh and I made a date bet on who would win; McCain, we eat at Chilis, Obama, we eat at Olive Garden...it's a win-win for my tummy.)

My word verification is "quickee" and it make me giggle.

i am proud that so many people yesterday came out to vote--either way. our vote is our power, and we should never forget that.

dumb question: the timothy passage, what does it mean? I am not very versed in the bible, but I really want to understand.

I am thankful that there is a kingdom that supersedes all kingdoms here on earth and that the King of Kings still RULES from on high. He raises up earthly leaders and takes them out (just like He did King Neb). Thank you God, for loving us so much! We may not understand your reasons, but we trust your judgment!

Christine,
1 Timothy 2:1-4 states this:

1. I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior,

To me this has always meant that we should pray for God to assist our government officials and be thankful for them (which I am!) no matter whom they are. The Bible tells us that we should submit to government, and the only examples in the Bible of when it is unacceptable to do so is when the laws are are in contradiction with God's laws. Which unfortunately happens a lot.

I will continue to stand up and lobby for the things I believe in but I will make an effort NOT to speak out against Obama, just as I did with the current president without purpose but just to pray for him. So that our country would thrive and so that I would not provoke unnecessary discourse (the key word being unnecessary) but be marked by Godliness and dignity.

Does that help at all? I am not much of a Biblical scholar?
