Updates: Me & The Birds

I noticed some definite improvement in the way I feel this morning. Especially in my fingers and wrists. Still hurts to walk, pick up the kids, etc., but I think I am on the upswing. I am starting to feel encouraged that this might actually just be some kind of strange virus. What a wonderful answer to prayer that would be!

I'm still medicated and not up to any posts that require actual thought, or to commenting, although I have been reading some today.

AND, I thought I would post a quick update on Sarah's babies. It's been a week and the change has been remarkable. One of her eggs never hatched. It makes me sad to see it nestled in there with the babies. I can't help but wonder if it makes Sarah sad. But maybe her life is more about instinct than emotion. I think my own life would be easier that way sometimes. Still, it gives my heart a tug each time I see it.
They really are cute now. I have loved having them in our life and watching their progress. I wish I could find a way to be there whey they finally take wing. I imagine that will be in only another week or two.
Then I will have to return to obsessing about my own offspring.

I'm sure they can't wait.

The babies are so cute!!

And I'm very happy to hear you're feeling better, even if it's just a little bit. Hope it keeps getting better...

oh they are cute. but i've heard you're not supposed to touch baby birds, that the mother won't want to feed them if they smell like another animal. I hope it's not true! (maybe it was something i was told as a child so I wouldn't bother birds!)

Maypole-I did do some unofficial internet research on that exact thing, before I picked up the baby. Everything I read said that it was a myth. I hope that is true as I would be heartbroken if I did anything to hurt those babes.

Oh yeah, touching them is a total myth. Momma will come back to them as long as they're in the nest. Birds can't smell. Any clue as to what kind of birds they are? The biologist in me HAS to know! LOL!

Lynn, I tried to figure it out, but couldn't come up with anything definitive. I think they are a kind of sparrow. The eggs, nest, and the babies seem to match that the best. It's hard to get a good look at the mama because she flies away if you get too near the nest, but she's small and brown. Sorry that's the best help I could give you.

We had some robins nest on our back deck once. The amount of time from when they hatched and then flew away was astoundingly short.

Hope you feel better!

Gosh, Joy. I haven't been here in a few days and look what I missed! Glad you are doing better ~ how frightening. Hope the upswing continues..
and the birdies...how sweet!

Totally amazing that you get to watch the birds close-up like that! I wonder if the babies will stay close after they fly. We get the same cardinals nesting in our big azalea bush year after year. Do you guys have a bird feeder? (not required - we gave up on the feeder after realizing we were mainly supporting 4,327 chipmunks and the cardinals still come).

i'm SO glad that the don't hold a baby bird thing is a myth. I'm sorry to have doubted you, but the first thing I did when I saw that pictures was say "Oh no!" So.... whew. OF COURSE you would have looked into it, you fabulous mama, you.
